Back to Lore Player Identity

The Bards

Players are not silent spectators. They are Bards: second voices who help stolen heroes hear choice where Gallusar wrote fate.

♫

The Second Voice

The Bards

The player enters as a Second Voice: not possession, but choice carried across the battlefield.

Narrative Function

The Bard gives HotDA its diegetic player identity. Progression, discovery, cosmetics, titles, victories, and defeats become part of a personal song carried across matches.

Bard Link

The Second Voice

Through the Bard Link, a player enters the Edge not as flesh, but as presence: instinct, warning, conscience, command, or impossible courage inside a hero’s mind.

This is not possession. The hero is not erased. The Bard’s power is relational: to remember, restore, choose, fail, and try again.

The Second Voice

A Voice Crosses. The Body Remains.

The Second Voice

Choice, Not Control

The player enters as a Second Voice: not possession, but choice carried across the battlefield.

Agency with Limits

Not Another Gallusar

The Bard’s power must never feel absolute. Absolute authorship would make the Bard another Gallusar.

The correct fantasy is more delicate: the Bard helps the hero carry continuity across forced death so each return becomes resistance rather than reset.

Account Layer

Progression as Memory

Bard XP, titles, achievements, discoveries, cosmetics, and restored Echoes can all express the player’s growing ability to carry memory forward.

This makes progression feel native to the lore rather than pasted onto it.
