A Wound in Memory
When Gallusar reached into the deserts, courts, libraries, caravans, fortresses, and gardens of the East, he found stories that did not stand still. They traveled. They disguised themselves. They became jokes, parables, cures, riddles, rebellions, and blades hidden beneath silk. Dastan came into the Edge as golden dust, blue-tiled observatories, ruined palaces, moonlit bazaars, and libraries whose books whisper back when opened. Here, a healer may wound a tyrant more deeply than a sword. A fool may carry more truth than a king. Gallusar sought heroes. Dastan gave him contradictions. To master Dastan is to learn that the sharpest weapon in the dark ages was never steel. It was meaning.
